NORVAL

I have traced my wife's ancestors back to the 1800's in South Africa. Three brothers Archibald, John and William Norval left Scotland and arrived at the Cape in South Africa in 1817 as part of the Moodie Settlers. We are currently unable to locate the parents of these 3 brothers in Scotland.

A lot of the input into my research has come from the work researched and published by Mrs M.M. Schoonees of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Her input is gratefully acknowledged. Thanks also go to Ian Norval also who has spent many hours in the archives and travelling through the Norval "hotspots" of South Africa.

Have a look at the NORVAL family tree as it exists on my records.

Here are two great Norval sites both hosted by Doug Norval:

Also, visit Sandy Norval's homepage and see his information on the origins of the name.

LANGLOIS

This is my mother's side of the family - a far more difficult family to research because the Langlois surname is very prevalent in all French speaking countries, especially France and Canada.

The information recorded on this website contains the families from South Africa and the Indian Ocean islands of Mauritius, La Reunion, Seychelles and Madagascar.

In 1771, Jean Claude Langlois arrived in Mauritius followed in 1776 by his brothers Jean Pierre and Claude Zorobabel Victor.  They were all goldsmiths by profession.  Jean Pierre moved to Seychelles in about 1794.

My own ascendancy is from none of the above mentioned brothers but from Nicolas Langlois, born in Paris, France who emigrated to La Reunion in the early 1700's.  Around 1850 his great grandson, Louis Jules Langlois moved to Mauritius.  My grandparents subsequently emigrated to South Africa in the 1940's.  My grandfather's twin brother Roger moved to Madagascar.

The Langlois research on this website was received from various sources but special thanks goes to my Dad, Philippe Geneve, Patrick Harel, Guy Arthur's web.

Have a look at the LANGLOIS family tree as it exists on my records.

There is a Langlois wine estate in France call at Langlois Chateau. No family links have been established at this time.
