The main branch |
The "main branch" is so named because it is the branch with the most recorded generations and individuals. This is the branch that left France in the early 1800's and set sail for the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Madagascar. This site's webmaster (Mike Lamusse) is descendant from the Mauritian family.
The Lamusse name has also been recorded in Canada and U.S.A but they have not yet been connected to the main branch.
I have traced my ancestors back to the late 1600's in France. In 1815, Nicolas Lamusse left France with his wife for Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. My father, in turn, left Mauritius in 1946 for South Africa where I was born and live today. Many of my father's cousins and distant cousins did the same.
I inherited a large portion of the research on the members of the Mauritian branch from my father who in turn received it from his Dad. Much of my own research has extended the older French and newer South African families.
As this is my after hours hobby - a lot of research continues to be done by my father. We are indebted to our French correspondent, Marie Leonie Lamusse, who has provided us with the details of her husband's family and has done a lot of the pre 1800 research in France. We have not yet made the connection with her branch. We are also grateful for the research being carried out in Mauritius by my uncle, Georges Lamusse and a relative, Axelle Lamusse.
Have a look at the various branches of the LAMUSSE family tree.
